Multi Frame

Big Foot Systems has supplied two of its Multi Frame systems, via USA distributor Goodman, to support VRV equipment on the roof of an exclusive penthouse apartment in Phoenix, Arizona.

The top floor penthouse condo occupies the entire 11th floor of Camelback Tower in the Scottsdale area of Phoenix. Boasting 360 degree unobstructed views and a full wrap around patio, it has undergone a contemporary, high-end renovation. Big Foot’s Multi Frames were specified because of their ease of installation and the need for a packaged product that could be delivered to a short timeline. The Multi Frame offers AC contractors a quick and simple solution to AC installation on flat roofs and the product is delivered flat packed in one box, ready to use. This was essential as the VRV equipment was flown to the roof the day after the frames were delivered to the site in March 2018.

The innovative Multi Frame is a non-penetrative repeatable support structure for mounting all sizes and weights of standardised AC equipment on flat roofs and was ideal on the delicate Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) single-ply roof.

Big Foot’s free standing Multi Frame, which incorporates anti-vibration mats, negates the need for time consuming and costly penetrations through roofs and the associated problems they can cause. The typical cooling plant that the Multi Frame can support includes; compressors, condensers, VRFs, small AHUs, ASHPs and extractor fans. Available in a 1m x 1.2m box section frame, the Multi Frame and extender kit makes installation easy.

In addition, the Multi Frame is incredibly adaptable, letting installers configure the frame to meet a project’s needs and allowing the frame to suit the requirements of multiple installations with varying configurations on one roof, using the same boxed framework.

Since the Multi Frame can be scaled up with an extension pack, it is possible to install long VRF set ups or split systems without worrying about the distance. Any length of L shaped or dog leg frames can be fitted according to the demands of each individual project, and it is ideal for retrofitting AC units on flat roofs. The Multi Frame is therefore well suited for tricky retrofit installations where other plant or pipes are already taking up roof space and need to be negotiated. The system is also ideal for weak lightweight roofs where it is essential to spread the load evenly. The design load for the Multi Frame is 500kg.

Drop on bars for simple, quick and easy installation help to give the product a 20-minute build time which saves precious time on site.

In addition, adjustable leg assemblies and integrated rubber mats provide installation flexibility allowing uneven surfaces to be easily tackled and making the positioning of the frame simple. Made entirely of Hot Dipped Galvanised metal this durable product is very robust and will stand up to the most testing weather conditions on exposed roofs.

Big Foot Systems’ products and systems are quick and easy to install ensuring project cost and time clarity, thus reducing the need for complex, time-consuming and expensive detailing. Offering improved roof aesthetics, Big Foot Systems provides engineered solutions that are innovative in design, robust and repeatable. Big Foot combines market-leading products and services, which include system design and on-site support. Available to install in all weathers utilising familiar componentry, all systems are designed with safety, security and simplicity in mind. Finally Big Foot Systems offers short manufacture and delivery lead times to help a project meet its schedule and stay within budget.

Commenting on the project, Anthony J. Cereghino, Vice President of Alpine Mechanical said: “We enjoyed the ease and speed of installation and the quality of construction, as well as the fact that Goodman had the product in their system for quick delivery. It was essential that the support system was quick to install as we had such a tight timeframe before the plant was flown in and Big Foot’s supports fitted the bill perfectly.
